Instagram is growing more popular by the minute with the kids and with brands. Its user growth and expanding advertising capabilities have big and small brands alike jumping on the photo app’s bandwagon, but the lack of available analytics tools presents a problem when it comes time for any of those brands to review results. The simplicity we all love Instagram for has made it nearly impossible to measure metrics — until Iconosquare.
Iconosquare — formerly Statigram — is a complete Instagram analytics suite that provides just about every type of insight examinable to marketing teams (and curious general users too). We’ve been taking advantage of the tool over the past few weeks in an effort to up our own Instagram game. Here’s a brief overview of the platform and a few of our favorite features:
Basic Stats
Iconosquare provides all the basic data one might expect, such as follower increases and losses, engagement rates, and top posts. These more general numbers can be broken down for the month or viewed in total from the time the Instagram account was created.
The “Rolling Month Details” tab allows brands and users to zone in on more specific stats for the previous month, such as top performing posts and average number of post likes. Users can also receive this information packaged by email on a regular basis to stay up to date.
Post and growth history
Iconosquare provides growth history in several sections to view how your account performance and following have increased or decreased over the past several months or even years. These stats are tracked from the time your account was created, making it possible to see your brand’s steady growth as well as big spikes.
Peak periods of engagement
This might be the most valuable insight the platform has to offer. Strategically sending out posts during peak periods of engagement was difficult to do before Iconosquare; optimal time frames had to be guessed based on previous post performance and general happenings in the “Following” feed. This Iconosquare feature indicates when the most interaction occurs among your followers and stacks it up against your current posting habits. This will likely prove to be an invaluable feature for marketers (and a fascinating feature for those who simply crave the hearts).
Photos ranked by engagement
Not only is it simple to check the performance of a specific photo through Iconosquare, but it’s also easy to compare it to others over the past month or several.
Under the “My Media” tab, users can filter photos by likes or comments, and Iconosquare will rearrange them according to engagement rank rather than chronologically. This allows brands to easily see what types of posts performed best and worst and identify common denominators among those posts.
Follower details
It’s easy to count whether or not you’ve lost or gained followers directly from your Instagram profile, but Iconosquare provides much more detailed data about your followers. If you’ve ever lost one or several in a short period, you can easily pinpoint who hit unfollow under the “Community” tab. This section even displays which accounts aren’t following you back — a useful feature for brands and an appealing one for general users.
Iconosquare also shows which followers engage with your photos most often and displays your top 10 with the number of times they’ve double-tapped in the past month. Clearly our agency director, Krista, has a lot of love and hearts for our Insta-work.
User details
In addition to details about the habits of your followers, Iconosquare allows users to view their own personal activity practices, such as most frequent posting times, most used filters and hashtags, and users interacted with most often. An accurate view of your activity is always helpful when planning new community management strategies.
Iconosquare is an essential analytics tool for brands looking to use Instagram to better connect with customers and fans — just like we’re hoping to. Not in our numbers yet? Find and follow us on Instagram: @hurrdat.
