I’m Matt, the graphic design intern at Hurrdat this fall. I graduated from the University of Northwestern-St. Paul last December with a degree in graphic design.

I see design in the creative maelstrom of ideation, from the psychology behind colors and typefaces to the UX of a bathroom. I get excited designing visuals, processes, and code. For me design is everywhere, so I am glad I enjoy it!

My introduction to design was through my lifelong passion of photography. While I live and breathe design, photography is a more artistic outlet for me. I love landscape, architecture, and still life. While I do shoot people (calm down, I do it with a camera) I prefer candid shots, but friends aren’t always as please with the results.

This summer I interned in at Sundog Marketing + Technology in Fargo, North Dakota, as a designer and development intern. While there I worked mainly on branding and web development. When I wasn’t in the office I would be sipping Maple Lattes at 20 Below Coffee or scouting new photo locations around town. I also started working with YOYO CRM, a start-up out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, where I put my branding and UX/UI skills to use.

I’m excited to be at Hurrdat and to have the opportunity to integrate my design skills into my everyday uses of Facebook, Twitter, and other social platforms. I have already learned a ton, and I look forward to learning much more!

In my free time, I love to explore new places and check out new coffee shops for their individual quirkiness. I love working on design projects — whether they are posters or logos — with friends. When I’m with my friends I also love to play a good game of Catan, Munchkins, or One Night if we aren’t watching a Korean drama.

Matt’s Fast Facts:

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?  A Lego engineer/designer.

The best part of waking up is: Being able to guiltlessly drink all the coffee.

Who was your celebrity crush growing up? Kim Possible, but she is now more of a role model.
