Hello, fancy meeting you here. My name is Julia Jackson, and I’m the Social Media Intern this fall for this awesome company.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to be working for Hurrdat while getting to play with social media all day. It’s hard to believe this is considered work. As you could probably guess, being a 22-year-old college student, I’m on social media pretty close to 24/7. It’s not only a great distraction from those less-than-interesting classes (sorry, Mom), but I like to think of it as another avenue of learning. Social media is constantly updating and reinventing itself, so I never want to think that I have too good of a grasp on it.

I’m in my last semester of classes at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where I study journalism and minor in English. Being in the J-school, as it’s so lovingly nicknamed, I knew about Hurrdat in its baby stages. Founders Blake Lawrence and Adi Kunalic spoke to my Journalism 101 class back in 2012 and planted the seed that would eventually grow into this internship.

Aside from personal accounts, my first real experience with social media on a professional level started at UNL’s student-run newspaper, The Daily Nebraskan. I’m currently the assistant engagement editor, and I create social media posts for their Facebook and Twitter accounts. That role gave me a great introduction for the work I’m doing here at Hurrdat and opened me up to more learning experiences.

When I’m not working on social media for Hurrdat, you can find me endlessly looking at food blogs, Instagram, or Chrissy Teigen. Usually, it’s some combination of all three.

Though it’s taken me a few applications (and several résumé re-writes), I never stopped trying to become a part of this team. I’m stoked to get to work with real clients and help grow their social media outreach.

Cheers!
