Digital Marketing Podcasts Worth a Listen

Lately on my commute to work, I’ve traded in the tunes for something a little more educational: podcasts. I started with a few from NPR, and then I discovered MarektingPodcasts.com — a hub of podcasts covering all realms of marketing and advertising. I’ve spent the past few weeks listening to several podcasts, and these won “most beneficial” in my book.

The Art of Paid Traffic

The Art of Paid Traffic is hosted by Rick Mulready, a success entrepreneur and blogger. Since I’m a paid media strategist, the title alone was enough to draw me in. This podcast discusses what is currently working in the industry as well as trends to stay away from. Mulready tests strategies with his own business, then walks his audience through his experience step by step while covering all different ad types. Each episode is about 20 minutes long and straight to the point — a definite perk when searching for a morning commute podcast.

Social Media Pubcast

Social Media Pubcast is hosted by Jon Loomer, a Facebook marketer, blogger, and SEO strategist. In this pubcast, Jon invites his guests to his virtual pub to get drunk on social media. I like Jon’s approach because he makes the drier parts of social seem more exciting. He uses his personal experiences to teach his audience new tips, all while enjoying a nice cold one. In addition to the pubcast, Jon also records his blogs, which are eight to 10 minutes long. For those with a shorter commute, this is the perfect way to squeeze some extra info into your morning.

Social Pros

Social Pros is hosted by Jay Baer of Convince and Convert. Jay eats, sleeps, and breathes social media. His podcast slogan holds true — in each episode he invites an expert from a specific industry to discuss the things they are doing on social media. Sometimes the episodes are about all social, and others are about topics that relate. One I listened to recently was about how to give an interesting presentation. No matter what the topic is, Jay is always excited and ready to present his audience with more information about social. As we all know, there is always something new to learn in this industry.

Honorable mentions

These NPR favorites may not be marketing-oriented podcasts, but they do provide plenty of interesting and insightful info that’s bound to be useful at work at some point. In any case, they’ll make your morning commute much more educational.

This American Life

If you’re about to head to an event where you don’t know a lot of people and you’re not sure what you’re going to talk about, listen to This American Life before you go. Almost every time I listen to one an episode, I end up discussing it with a stranger or pulling facts from an episode I listened to that relate to our conversation. This podcast is relatable, emotional, and will suck you in in the first few minutes.

Ask Me Another

Think you’re a trivia genius? Test your smarts by pretending to be a contestant on Ask Me Another. This podcast will make any drive go by in a flash. The witty hosts and contestants will keep you laughing and listening. It’s the perfect combination of comedy and education.

Ted Radio Hour

If you love Ted Talks, then you will love Ted Radio Hour. A common theme is presented with each episode, and talks that fit the theme make up the show. You get to hear from the speakers and dive deeper into the problem-solving, creative thinking, and storytelling. I always feel smarter after listening.

So take your pick. Want to learn something new? Dive into a podcast. You never know what you’ll find or what you can learn from a few minutes of talk radio.
